The Comforter!

John 14:15-18
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Jesus was about to enter the final leg of His journey and He was offering some final hope to His disciples. Jesus spoke to them and said that He would be leaving them but the Comforter that He would send would come and be with them!
Peter in John 13:37 after hearing of Jesus' departure said, Lord why cannot I follow now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
Peter had become accustomed to being with Jesus. Being in His presence was comforting to Peter and I believe the very thought of Jesus not being around caused Peter to become anxious. Jesus understood the need for this fellowship and communion and assured them His comfort would return.
And He shall give you another Comforter, that He may ABIDE with you FOREVER!!   John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The comfort that we need in our lives, the comfort that we seek in our lives can only come from the Holy Ghost! The Comforter which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send! The Comforter came on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Ghost filled all that were in the upper room in Acts 2:1-4.
Its not enough for Gods people to come to church and feel the presence of God during services and then have to go back out in to the world alone! The Lord would have His children filled with His Spirit that He may dwell IN them and that we would never be alone, we would never be comfortless!

  John 16:12-13
I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
The Holy Ghost doesn't just provide comfort but is also a guide to us in to all truth! There are many things that we don't and cannot understand without the Holy Ghost because there are things that can only be spiritually discerned!1 Cor 2:11-14
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of God dwelling in us to give us the ability to understand spiritual things. The comfort in that is knowing that when I receive the Holy Ghost and He abides in me, greater understanding in what I feel and have to deal with in this life is then revealed to me!

Comfort doesn't come while in His presence, Comfort comes as His presence!

In the presence, of Jehovah, God Almighty, Prince of peace. Troubles vanish, hearts are mended, in the presence of the King!
